Easter: Ebonyi gov’s wife offsets indigent patients’ hospital bills, donates food items

On Friday, the wife of Ebonyi State Governor Chief Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru offset the hospital bills of twelve Indigent patients at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.

According to Mrs Nwifuru, the payment of Indigent patients’ debt was to enable them to celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ with their families.

The first lady, who is also the founder of Better Health for Rural Women Children and the Internally Displaced Foundation, BERWO, disclosed this when she visited AE-FUTHA to celebrate Easter with the sick and needy persons at the hospital.

She also donated bags of rice, cartons of Indomie, loaves of bread, and other food items to newborns with their mothers and other patients when she visited the antenatal, neonatal unit, paediatric surgery, postnatal, and children’s emergency wards.

“This offer was for those who were indebted to the hospitals because of their inability to pay their medical bills,’’ she said.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Prof. Robinson Onoh, commended the governor’s wife on her dedication to the well-being of women and children across the state, applauding her gesture of offsetting the medical bills of the indigent patients.

Earlier, the governor’s wife visited St. Vincent and Paul’s old people’s home in Abakaliki and gifted them food items for the Easter celebration.

She, however, urged them to continue praying for the present administration of the state led by her husband, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, assuring them that the state government will continue to take care of them and provide for them.

Mrs Nwifuru was accompanied by the BERWO Foundation team, wives of government functionaries, and AE-FUTHA top management staff.
