Easter: Ebonyi gov solicits continued prayer to promote good governance

Ebonyi Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to continue praying for and partnering with the state government to promote good governance and moral values.

He made this appeal during the 2025 Easter Choral Day celebration and competition at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Emmanuel Echiegu, expressed gratitude to CAN for organising the event, which he described as rewarding.

He also appreciated the organisation’s efforts in bringing citizens together to worship and praise God.

CAN State Chairman Rev. Dr. Scamb Chinedum Nwokolo urged Christians not to let current hardships discourage their faith.

He emphasised the theme “Resurrection and Renewal,” suggesting that Nigeria’s challenges could be a precursor to God’s blessings.

Nwokolo encouraged Nigerians to remain patient and trust in God’s plan.

The choral competition featured five choirs representing different CAN blocs.

The Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) choir won first place with a score of 73.6%, followed by the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) with 69% and the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) with 68%.

In a sermon, Rev. Professor Wilberforce Oti stressed the importance of consistently praising God, citing its potential to bring about resurrection, restoration, and renewal.

The OAIC choir leader, Mrs Joycy Ejikeme, attributed their victory to God’s grace and vowed to work harder to defend their title next year.
