Easter: Christ’s resurrection our hope, strength, victory — CAN

Published by

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians across the nation and around the world, urging reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to living out the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In a press statement released on Easter Sunday, Archbishop Okoh described the resurrection of Christ as the cornerstone of the Christian faith and a powerful source of hope in times of adversity.

“Easter reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for the redemption of humanity. His resurrection is a powerful testament to the might of God, offering us hope, forgiveness, and the promise of eternal life,” Okoh said.

Citing 1 Corinthians 15:14, the Archbishop emphasized the foundational significance of the resurrection: “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” He called on all Christians to reflect deeply on this truth and renew their commitment to living in accordance with Christ’s teachings.

While recognizing the cultural richness of Easter celebrations across Nigeria — from parades in Lagos to processions in northern villages — Archbishop Okoh also acknowledged the pain and persecution many Christians face.

“Even in the face of adversity, the spirit of Easter endures. It reminds us that, just as Christ rose from the dead, we too can rise above trials through faith, resilience, and unity,” he said.

He called on Christians to make this Easter a time for spiritual renewal and purposeful action — extending compassion, engaging in acts of kindness, and promoting peace.

“Let us reach out to neighbours of other faiths, fostering mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. May this season be one of harmony and goodwill for all Nigerians,” he added.
