Easter celebration: NSCDC deploys 1,705 personnel, promises adequate security in Oyo

As Christian faithful prepare to celebrate Easter festivity, the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,705 personnel to the nooks and crannies of the state.

The personnel are to monitor all sensitive areas, such as churches, motor parks, playing grounds, recreation centres and all federal and state government infrastructural facilities, including Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) right of way.

The State Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, also directed the tactical units as well as the disaster management unit of the Command to assume strategic positions for timely response to distress or disaster during the festive period.

Making this known in a statement on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Oyindamola Okuneye, said the commandant admonished all Christians and non-Christians in the state to celebrate with absolute moderation and share love among one another during Easter.

He enjoined the Christian faithful to reflect on the essence of death, lessons of passion, suffering, forgiveness, and love of Christ during the Lenten season and pray for unity among citizens of the nation.

In a related development, the Commandant stressed that the security of lives and property of the residents of the pacesetter state remains non-negotiable.

Dr Adaralewa said this during the evaluation of the first quarter security report of all Area Commanders and Divisions in the state at the command headquarters at Agodi, Ibadan.

The civil defence boss reminded the heads of all departments and formations in the state that Christians worldwide would be celebrating Easter between April 7 and 10 to mark the end of Lent and to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He advised the public to be vigilant during the celebration and report any unusual movement or gathering in their environment during the festive period to the NSCDC or other security agencies in the state.
