Easter: Abia security agencies deploy over 1,500 personnel for safety operations

The Abia Police Command has announced that security personnel have been strategically deployed across Abia State to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Also the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 705 personnel, while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia Command has assigned 500 personnel and 300 Special Marshalls for the 2025 Easter patrol, aiming to keep the period safe for residents and road users.

In a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, it was stated: “In line with our commitment to ensuring public safety, the command has activated a comprehensive Operation Order to implement robust security measures before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.”

“Security personnel have been strategically deployed across Abia State to guarantee the safety of life and property. Regular and special patrols of major roads, worship centres, recreational spots, and other public areas are ongoing. These efforts, alongside other covert and overt operations, are aimed to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Easter celebration for all”, and called on all Abians to be vigilant and security-conscious.

Similarly in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, NSCDC Abia State Command, ASC II Doreen Udugwu, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State Command, Akinsola Aderemi has deployed a total of 705 personnel to ensure the security of lives and properties across the state.

According to the statement, “This deployment is part of the Command’s proactive measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful celebration for everyone residing in the state. The officers will be strategically positioned in various locations, including churches, markets, motor parks, and other public places”.

Akinsola also directed that the deployment be carried out with utmost professionalism and diligence, stating that the deployed personnel will work in collaboration with other security agencies to provide round-the-clock security coverage.

while urging the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency, the State Commandant’s said, “I am committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Abians before, during and after this Easter period. I assure the public of the unwavering dedication to duty and unrelenting effort of my officers to protect lives and properties in the State. I wish you all a happy Easter Celebration“.

Also in a statement issued in Umuahia, Wednesday and signed by the Public Education Officer, Jude Igbonekwu, the Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Abia Command said it has deployed 500 of its personnel and 300 Special Marshalls for the 2025 Easter patrol to make the period safe for Abians and other road users.

Accordingly, the Abia Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, mobile courts have been established to try offenders and urged for caution and discipline during the celebrations while advising motorists and all road users to celebrate responsibly by adhering strictly to all traffic rules and regulations to ensure a safe and hitch-free Easter season.

According to her, “This period is often characterized by increased movement of people and vehicles, which can heighten the risk of road traffic crashes. We are therefore appealing to drivers to avoid speeding, overloading, drunk driving, and the use of phones while driving. These dangerous behaviors are major causes of crashes and loss of lives”.

The Sector Commander further disclosed that the command has deployed personnel and patrol vehicles across major routes within the state to monitor traffic, assist travelers, and enforce compliance with road safety standards, noting that special attention would be given to high-risk areas and black spots known for recurrent road crashes.

“In line with the Corps’ commitment to a safer motoring environment, mobile courts will also be operational during the Easter period to promptly prosecute traffic offenders and deter reckless behavior on the roads”, CC Ezeoma said and urged transport union leaders, religious organizations, and community heads to support the campaign for safer roads by sensitizing their members on the importance of safe road use.

She further stated, “As Christians across the country commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Sector Command, extends warm Easter greetings to all residents and road users in the state. As we celebrate the Easter, let us not forget the essence of the season – love, sacrifice, and hope.”
