Easter: Abia NSCDC assures residents of adequate security

The Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, has assured the people and residents of the state of adequate security of lives and property during the 2024 Easter celebrations.

Commandant Alfadarai gave the assurance after the Command’s Quarterly Operations Strategy Review meeting held yesterday at the NSCDC headquarters in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital.

Handing a fresh charge to the officers and men of the command to scale up security in lieu of the Easter celebrations after the quarterly review meeting, the state commandant said “The Quarterly Operations Strategy Review meeting affords the command the opportunity to critically evaluate our operations in the last few months, make adjustments where necessary, and/or launch entirely new operations based on available intelligence. This is what we have done, and I am glad to announce to us that we are doing very well, but there is still room for improvement.”

He applauded the undercover operatives of the Corps in the state for the actionable intelligence information they have provided, which has necessitated the launch of a new operation to tackle the new crime dimension with a view to improving the security of the state.

”I want to assure the general public that we are fully committed to our mandate of securing lives and critical national assets and infrastructure. The management, after the crucial Quarterly Operations Strategy Review meeting, has concluded plans to launch a new operation that, beyond the Easter festivities and its attendant security and traffic concerns, will ensure a safer environment for economic growth and development of the state,” Alfadarai said.

The Abia NSCDC boss thereafter directed Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units to be on “Yellow“ and ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration in the state. He further stated that strategic deployments have been made with special attention to worship and event centres, motor parks, malls, and other flashpoints.

According to the State Commandant, the action is in compliance with the directive of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to put in place necessary measures to tackle the envisaged increased pressure on security on the one hand and on human and vehicular traffic on the other hand during the Easter celebration in the state, but he insisted that personnel must be guided by global best practices in carrying out their assigned duties.

He warned, however, that disciplinary measures as contained in the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be meted out to those who may go contrary to the rules of engagement.

While felicitating with the Christian faithful as they commemorate the 2024 Easter celebration, Commandant Alfadarai enjoined them to emulate the life of sacrifice, peace, peace and love as exemplified by Jesus Christ, adding that the period offers a time of sober reflection and prayer for God to heal the land.

He solicited the continuous support of the general public by providing useful information to enable the security agencies to serve them better.
