EAC launches free video on UTME text, ‘Sweet Sixteen’

EDUCATIONAL Advancement Centre, Ibadan, a leading Cambridge Advanced Level examination centre, has developed a video focused on ‘Sweet Sixteen’, a literature text recommended by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board as part of the English language test for all candidates sitting this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Speaking on Tuesday on the new video, the director of the centre, Pastor Muyiwa Bamgbose, said the video covers all the seven chapters of the book, and that relevant and possible UTME-related questions were developed for each chapter to prepare candidates for the examination.

He explained that the video was developed knowing that students no longer develop interest in reading but prefer to watch videos.

According to him, to impart knowledge to students, it is better to follow the teaching procedure that ‘if a child cannot learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.’

He said students across the country have free access to the video via YouTube or lessonteacher.ng

“The free video we have put on air for our esteemed Nigerian students forms part of our contributions to academic performance of students in this year’s UTME. If students are well taught through making learning techniques available for them, failure and examination malpractice will be minimised.

“EAC exists to bridge the gap between mass failure and academic success at all levels of education in Nigeria. Many of our students scored 300 and above in the last year’s UTME.

“To help other students in the country in their academic pursuits, we have series of learning-made-easy techniques kits online through our School-on-Air programmes for every subject,” he said.

While he commended JAMB for its improved services, Bamgbose urged the board to increase the time schedule for its examination to minimum of two hours.

According to him, the development will give the candidates enough time to write the examination with little or no stress.  He called for consistency in the examination process so that the examination will not turn to be a game of chance.
