A 26 year old driver who allegedly raped a 21 year old domestic house help after luring her with food, was on Wednesday remanded in Kirikiri prison.
The driver, Emmanuel Egwatu, who resides in the same house with the rape victim was said to have taken food to the victim’s room asking her to join him in eating the food but while they were eating, he started making advances to the girl, telling her that he wants to have sex with her but when she refused he forced himself on her and raped her.
The victim was also said to have told Egwatu that she couldn’t have sex with him as he was the boy friend to her co-house maid, adding that they are all domestic helps who reside in the same house.
Egwatu is facing a court charge of unlawfully having carnal knowledge of the victim, which was proffered against him by the police before an Igbosere Magistrate Court.
The prosecutor, Corporal Friday Mameh told the court that the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the victim without her consent.
He said that the incident took place on December 8, at Platinum Close Treasure Garden Ikate, Lekki in Eti-Osa local government area. According to the prosecutor the offence committed is punishable under sections 259 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011
Egwatu however pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Magistrate Mr Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till January 20, 2017.
