AS the scarcity of petrol heightens, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Gombe State, on Monday, seized 300 litres of the product in 10 jerricans, at Manullahi Global Resource filling station, Hina, and dispensed it to motorists and other users free of charge and thereafter dispensed fuel at the approved pump price of  N145.

While speaking to journalists during the exercise, the Operational Controller of Gombe State DPR Field office, Abdullahi Abawa, said the filling station would be sealed after dispensing the fuel for hoarding 26,000 litres of fuel, tampering with analogue analyser and selling above the pump price.

He said, “The filling station has four pump island, but one is out of use while the remaining three pumps, had their analogue analyser tampered with, thereby making it difficult to get the accurate figure of the amount of sale.”

Abdullahi Abawa added that “Sanctioning the petrol station owner will serve as a deterrent to other perpetrators of such acts of sabotage.”

He said that it is the responsibility of the DPR to regulate activities in the oil business, particularly with the current scarcity of fuel across the country and expressed dismay following the attitude of some marketers who were inflicting unnecessary hardships on the citizens.

Also, the DPR sealed Barikidi Oil Nig Ltd, Liji, for selling above pump price.

One of the beneficiaries of the DPR punitive action,  Muhammad Bello commended the DPR for embarking on the operation to regulate the sale of fuel, adding that most marketers were exploiting consumers by jerking up the pump price to as high as N300 per litre.
