Don’t shortchange consumers ―DPR boss warns

THE Operations Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Abeokuta, Mrs Muinat Bello -Zagi, has warned independent oil marketers not to cheat consumers of petroleum products in Ogun State.

She said that any petroleum retail outlet found shortchanging members of the public in terms of quantity and quality would be appropriately dealt with.

Mrs Bello, who made this known while on a monitoring and surveillance visit to some petrol stations within Abeokuta metropolis, on Monday, said that the regulatory agency would not compromise its mandate in ensuring that consumers get the correct value for money.

She explained that most of the filling stations visited were not doing badly in terms of dispensing quality and quantity petroleum products.

The DPR boss also noted that most filling stations in the state capital are safety compliance as regards the provision of safety materials such as fire extinguishers, warning against the use of cell phones and smoking while within gas stations.

She said, “DPR is a regulatory agency which is in charge of regulating the oil and gas in Nigeria.”

“Part of our function in Abeokuta is to ensure quality, quantity and safety standard in all oil and gas retail outlets which filling station falls under.”

“So, we are here today to monitor and ensure that the consumers are not shortchanged in terms of quality, quantity and also the safety standard.”

“We want everybody that comes to filling stations goes back home safely. In DPR, we have zero tolerance for the incident of accident.”

“We have a penalty for under dispensing. Once you are shortchanging the customers, the outlets will be penalized. We are here to protect both the customers and the marketers.”

Bello -Zagi equally advised residents to desist from storing petrol at home to avoid any case of fire outbreak, especially in this dry season.
