Don’t run away from politics, don tells Muslim professionals

AN Islamic finance expert and lecturer at the University of Lagos, Dr Tajudeen Yusuf, has asked Muslim professionals not to shy away from vying for political positions as that is one of the feasible ways for any Nigerian to become a solver of problems in the country.

Dr Yusuf, an economist, threw the challenge in Ibadan, at the October edition of the Professional Muslim Forum (PMF), organised by the Oyo State chapter of the Guild of Muslim Professionals.

Speaking on the topic “Nigeria, a Toddler at 57: Muslim Professionals to the Rescue,” Dr Yusuf urged Muslims to prioritise self-development and prepare themselves to serve the public as good ambassadors of Islam.

According to him, it is high time Muslims stopped blaming others and mentored young professionals if they desire a truly developed country.

“Start making yourselves into solutions to problems. Stop complaining if you want to progress in life; change to problem solvers from problem discussants. Produce a blueprint and actualisation strategy. You must be relevant; you don’t have any cause to complain with what Allaah has done for you. You shouldn’t be afraid to fail (if you have a good intention),” he said.

The don called on all Muslim professionals to be dynamic in their da’wah by discussing contemporary issues that revolve around the challenges of Muslims without being sentimental.

According to him, Muslim professionals should never joke with data but they should be able to “turn immediate problems to research topics.”
