Don’t rest on your laurels, Lagos students told

Lagos State Government has cautioned students who emerged winners in various state organised competitions at primary and secondary school levels in the state not to be carried away with their achievements but to study harder and remain focus and always be law-abiding.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo gave them the advice at the presentation of their various prizes at the Conference Room of the ministry at Alausa Ikeja, on Monday.

The students were winners of the state’s inter-schools debate, essay writing and the governor’s quiz competitions. And they were rewarded with trophies, certificate of merit and one mobile tablet each.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Adefisayo, in a statement made available by the head of Public Affairs unit of the ministry, Mr Ganiu Lawal, congratulated the students, who were 45 in all and in three different categories, namely primary, junior and senior secondary schools on the achievement.

She said their brilliance performances are testament that investment of Sanwo-Olu- led government on education is yielding good results.

She promised that the administration would continue to provide quality education for Lagosians.

In his remarks, executive chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, expressed delight over uniform education system being run in the state, reaffirming state’s determination to ensure all school going age children in the state are in school learning.

Earlier in her own address, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Abosede Adelaja, also pointed out that the state government is particularly committed to produce all-round students that will excel in learning and character.

However, while the Lagos State Senior Model College, Kankon emerged overall best school in the senior category of debate competition, Ogunmodede Junior College, Epe and Ijaiye Primary School, Ifako-Ijaiye won the junior and primary category respectively.

For essay writing, the state Senior Model College, Igbonla, Adebola Baptist Junior College, Surulere and Progressive Primary School, Agege won the senior, junior and primary categories respectively, while Vetland Senior Grammar School, Ifako Ijaiye; Topo Junior Secondary School, Badagry and Duro Oyedoyin Primary, School, Surulere won Governor’s Quiz Competition in senior, junior and primary school category, respectively.
