Don’t relate with people of questionable character, NYSC advises corps members

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised corps members in the country to abstain from associating with individuals with questionable character in the overall interest of their careers.

The NYSC coordinator in Ekiti State, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, gave the advice on Monday during the official closing of the 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ise-Orun/Emure-Ekiti.

She urged the corps members as they continue their service year in the state to be good ambassadors of the scheme, saying that the country is looking forward to them bring the desired change to the country.

Okpongete said, “Gentlemen corps members, as you proceed to your new homes for the remaining part of your service, I counsel you to take security matters seriously. Avoid frivolous and unauthorised journeys and do not associate yourselves with people of questionable character.”

While advising them to take serious culture and norms of their host communities, the state coordinator admonished the corps members to be committed and dedicated to duties.

Speaking, the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi explained that the NYSC scheme has been discovered to be a veritable tool for massive social change in the country, advising the corps members to channel their youthful energy towards things that would transform their lives and the state at large.

Represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, Fayemi said, “Apart from the corporate goals of NYSC which you would all agree with me have been greatly achieved over the years, the scheme has also been discovered to be a veritable tool for massive social change.

“I advise you to be law-abiding as it is expedient of you to exhibit self disciplines at all times. Choose rather be positively and productively engaged at all times because the idle hand is the devil’s workshop.”

The governor noted that the government would reward all corps members who display selfless services to the development of their host communities and the state at large.
