Don’t regard 2019 elections as do-or-die, MMWG tells politicians

THE Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has asked politicians not to regard the forthcoming general election as a do-or-die affair and realise that their fortunes lie only in the hands of God.

According to the media organisation, the desperation being witnessed in attempts to win elections portends danger and therefore true lovers of the people must avoid violence and other acts capable of causing unrest.

MMWG, in a message signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, to commemorate Mawlid Nabiyy, the birthday of Holy Prophet Muhammad, also urged all security agencies connected with next year’s elections to deal with troublemakers as “the ambition of anyone or group is not worth the blood of any single soul.”

The Federal Government had declared Tuesday, 20th of November, 2018, equivalent to 12th Rabial-Awwal, 1440, as holiday to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, who, according to the group, was sent as the last Messenger of God and a mercy to mankind.

“His [Prophet Muhammad’s] service to mankind in several areas is well acknowledged by all and sundry and recorded in history. A truthful, reliable and committed servant of God, Prophet Muhammad served dedicatedly with good character, sacrifice and sincere love for mankind.

“As we celebrate this year’s event, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria calls on those on the political arena not to regard the forthcoming election as a do-or-die-affair as God chooses whoever He wants to the lead or serve the people.

“The desperation being witnessed in attempt to win elections portends dangers and, therefore, true lovers of the people need not engage in violence, thuggery, vandalism and other acts capable of causing unrest.

“In this regard, we challenge all security agencies connected with next year’s election to deal with troublemakers as the ambition of anyone or a group of people is not worth the blood of any single soul.

“If the message brought to mankind by Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is Islam, which means peace, no Muslim should be found in any act or action that would threaten the peace and stability of anybody at any time.

“MMWG, therefore, calls on all Muslims to imbibe the message of peace by refraining from any action capable of disrupting peace before, during and after the general election,” the group said.
