The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Ondo, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, has charged the members of the service corps to rededicate themselves to nation-building as they can not afford to let down Nigeria.
The State Coordinator made the charge in her farewell remarks to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) corps members deployed to Ondo State and their counterparts dislodged from Lagos State.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the three-week orientation course, held at the Parade Ground of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, Bakare admonished them to invest their youthful energy into the development and transformation of the rural communities by embarking on projects that meet their immediate needs.
“As you go into the field for your primary assignment, I enjoin you to accept your postings in good faith and engrave your names on stones in the development and transformation of the rural communities by embarking on impactful projects that will make you a hero.”
She reminded them of the need to imbibe and internalise the lessons they have learnt within the spell of the orientation course and make them their guiding principles throughout the service year and beyond.
The NYSC Ondo State boss reassured the corps members that Ondo and Lagos states are peaceful and that one of the priorities of the governments of the two states is the safety of lives and property of all, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious leanings.
“Nevertheless, you have a role to play in this by making sure you are identified as corps members all the time and avoid mixing with miscreants and hoodlums,” she advised.
On Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, the Scheme’s helmsman in the Sunshine State enjoined the corps participants to acquire at least one life skill before the end of the service year, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of Ondo and Lagos, respectively.
She encouraged them to obtain from the relevant authorities before embarking on any journey and appealed to them not to travel at night for any reason.
Out of the 1,373 corps members deployed to Ondo State, 305 applicants were successful in their relocation bid and have been released to other states of the federation, while those relocated from Lagos could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of Letter of Commendation to the Camp Commandant, Captain E.O. Okakah, and Comrade Charles Adanri as Best Non-NYSC Camp Official and Best NYSC Camp Official, respectively.
