Don’t allow our culture die, NYSC Ondo boss charges Corps members

The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme, Mrs Victoria Nnenna Ani has made a special appeal to graduate youths mobilised for national service to aggressively protect the various cultures in the country from going into extinct.

The State Coordinator who is a Cultural Ambassador from Amokwe in Udi Local Government of Enugu State made the appeal when she declared open the Cultural Carnival for the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1) orientation course.

Mrs Ani who is a traditional title holder bemoaned the current situation where the younger generation has aversion to almost anything that has to do with their cultural backgrounds.

“My Kings and Queens, it is quite unfortunate that our society is paying less attention to what our forebears hold sacred and in high esteem. Rather than learn the rudiments and basics of our cultural values, we are busy importing cultures that have little or no relevance to us as a nation. NYSC, through a well-thought out policy is in the forefront to reverse this trend and has substituted the previous Endurance Trek for Cultural Carnival.

“Let us value what we have rather than giving attention to the cultures and ways of life that modernisation and civilisation has foisted on us. I want to let you know that your education and exposure stands you in good stead to encourage the younger ones who see you as role models and influencers to return to the glorious days of identifying with our root.”

The administrator and moulder of the destinies of the vibrant youths encouraged them to dissipate their youthful energy in re-awakening their interest in the nation’s cultural heritage and identity.

“We can all be Cultural Ambassadors with the sole aim of creating awareness and embarking on sensitisation and advocacy visits to schools, public places to show how beautiful our cultures are” she advised.

The Cultural aficionado admonished members of the service corps to give more attention to the promotion of the country’s values so that future generations can have something to inherit.

She appreciated the corps members for their resilience and discipline as the orientation course is winding down, and equally acknowledged the immense contributions of all the camp officials for being supportive of all the programmes and activities.

The Cultural Carnival produced number 6 platoon which showcased Hausa culture as overall winner and this was followed in second position by number 10 platoon with Igala presentation. The third position went to platoon number 3 who dazzled the entire camp community with Igbo culture.
