Donation of 120 vehicles, 35 motorcycles inadequate, PDP tells LASG

Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Tuesday that the donation of 120 vehicles and 35 motorcycles by the state government to security agencies, including the police to fight insecurity in the state is meagre and inadequate, even as it condemned plans by the government to toll the Lekki- Epe Expressway in whatever manner.

The party expressed this concern in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesperson, Mr Taofik Gani, in reaction to the list of achievements rolled out by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in celebration of his first 100days in office.

According to PDP, the number of vehicles and motorcycles that were donated is meagre and inadequate given the monumental fund in possession of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) through which the donation was made “and the low security in the state.”

“The governor claimed to have bought 120 vehicles and 35 motorcycles to help security in the state. We say that this donation is meagre and inadequate in view of the monumental fund with the LSSTF and the low security in the state.

“In the area of traffic, we condemn the plan to toll the Lekki- Epe expressway in whatever modality,” the party said.

On traffic situation in the state,  PDP, while observing instances of traffic logjam in the state, said local government chairmen “must be shamed for bad roads impeding the free flow of traffic in their areas.”

The party, however, said, to address the challenge, officers of LASTMA must now be monitored to always be at their duty posts and especially in heavy traffic areas, adding that such officers must be held responsible for their actions and inactions.

“LASTMA officers must now be monitored to always be at duty posts and especially heavy traffic areas. LASTMA Team leaders must now be held responsible. Similarly, council chairmen must be shamed for bad roads impeding the free flow of traffic in their areas,” the statement said.
