Young scientists across the country have been urged to focus more on genetics research in the country in order to make discoveries on how to tackle the challenges related to it.
The call was made by Professor Omotoye Olorode of Ogun State University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State at the Seminar organised by the Faculty of Sciences Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi on Monday.
Omotoye Olorode explained that genetics is a branch of biology concerned with the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in organisms explaining that, “All knowledge is based on prior knowledge and making prior knowledge less available, innovation is impeded”.

The University Don added that “I have tried only to share with you my reflections on general biology and the speciality of genetics and the future in a robust sense of the world,”
Professor Omotoye Olorode who is of the Department of Plant Sciences and Applied Zoology of the University urged the young scientists to think globally, act nationally and locally on genetics research.
According to him, “there are so many things that remain unknown in our environment, things we must know before they disappear, “added that they are things whose knowledge will contribute immensely to the global and national intellectual heritage in biology and genetics”.
Omotoye Olorode, however, urged frontiers while building capacity and understanding of the traditional and the frontier to be dialectically United.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU), Professor Mohammed Abdulaziz urged the students and scientists to put the skills and knowledge acquired from the seminar into practice.
