Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of Finance and Administration, Shuaibu El-Gambo has charged members of the Plateau State Eminent Person Group and Police Community Relation Committee to collaborate with the police and use their wealth of experiences in various fields to assist the police in crime prevention.
The Deputy Inspector General who stated this while addressing members of the group in Jos on Tuesday said the police have come to realise that it can tap from the experiences of retired personnel from various fields and professions adding that quite a lot of them are still useful to their communities and nation at large.
“The Inspector General of Police recognises the importance of this group in the fight against crime in the society. We realised that the police can tap from their wealth of experience, our work will be much easier if we partner with them, more so that many of them are close to the grass root.
“We strongly believe that partnering with you is the way forward, we count on your experience, and the police cannot fight crime alone without the input of members of the society. Please do not hesitate to tell us where we have gone wrong, we also need your praise where necessary to boost our morale” he said.
He appealed to members of the society especially the effluents and corporate organisations to assist where necessary to enable the police function effectively in discharging their duty adding that the police needs this kind of assistant until the federal government is able to fund the force adequately.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police commended state governors for coming to the aid of police from time to time and implored men of Plateau State police command to works towards transforming the prevailing peace in the state into permanent one.
In his address, the State Commissioner of Police Mr Babatunde Ogunyanwo reeled out numerous challenges facing his command and implored the Police Headquarters to assist the command in addressing them to enable his men perform to the optimal level.
All those who spoke in the course of the meeting advised the police to equip the police with modern gadgets and equipment to enable the police fight crime. They added that the police needs to be IT compliance to fight crime.
