Dickson warns against rejection of corps members in Bayelsa

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has warned Heads of school in the state to steer clear of rejecting Corps members posted to them in the course of their compulsory national service.

Dickson gave the warning on Monday during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the 2017 Batch “B” Stream 1 Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The closing ceremony was held at the Temporary Orientation Camp, Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State

The Governor said the warning became necessary in order not to frustrate the on-going education development of the state government.

Dickson, represented by Mr Telford Ongolo, Chief of Staff, Government said he was aware that about 85 per cent of the corps members have been posted to schools and urged the principals not to reject any of
them.

“The government of Bayelsa would not tolerate rejection of corps member without genuine reasons, especially by heads of school establishment.

“We have set machinery in motion to deal decisively with anyone or group, in the habit of frustrating the genuine efforts of our administration in rising the standard of education at all level in the state.

“For the corps members do not also induce the rejection of your postings. I urge you, therefore to accept your posting with open minds and be determine to make an impact in the community you find yourself.

“I have already directed all local government Chairmen, traditional Rulers and Community Leaders to ensure that those of you posted to their domain are warmly received and given all support to settle
down,” the Governor said.

On security, Dickson said the state government was committed to safeguarded lives and property of the corps members and however urged them to always be conscious their movement, especially in the night.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Loto Bolade thanked the Governor on it support to the scheme and noted that the corps members were ready to serve their fatherland.

Bolade congratulated the corps members and urged them to make the good use of what they have learnt during their orientation course, which she said was the first phase.

“Gentlemen, as you begin the second phase of the scheme with your posting to the place of your primary assignment, I urge you to be law abiding as you progress in your one year service.

“Always respect the norms and traditions of your host communities, be security conscious at all time.

“Avoid unnecessary travels, in line with the policy of “no life jacket, no travelling on water”, for those of you posted across water, do not travel without putting on the life-jacket,” she said.
