Dickson Swore in former CPS as Commissioner

Governor Seriake Dickason of Bayelsa State has re-shuffled his cabinet, as he swore in his former Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso Markson as commissioner for Information and Orientation.

The Governor also redeploy the former Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite to preside over the Ministry of Education, just as the former Education Minister, Deacon Markson Fefegha was moved to head the Ministry of Mineral Resources.

Dickson also hinted that other adjustments in the state executive council would be carried out in no distant time.

In his remarks after the swearing in of Iworiso-Markson at the Executive Council Chamber at the Government House, charged him to expand the frontiers of government’s information management, documentation, and records.

He, therefore, directed the offices of the state historian and archivist to be reporting directly to the Ministry of Information and Orientation henceforth.

Dickson said, ”Mr Iworiso-Markson, has been my Chief Press Secretary for almost six years. Let me say that I appreciate his service; he served me well. Once again, congratulations to Daniel Iworiso-Markson, you deserve this elevation.

”Today, you have been found worthy to join the state executive council. All I can say is that this is a call to higher duty. I will say that to whom much is given, much more is expected. I assign a portfolio to you are quite familiar with.

”I hereby assign you to the critical Ministry of Information. For Markson, you were not just my chief press secretary, you were a key member of the state media team. Working with a team of committed people, I expect you now as chairman of the state information/media team to work in synergy with other members of the media team.

”You are expected to carry your team along, listen to their suggestions and manage government’s relationships with your friends and colleagues from the other side. I have appointed very seasoned journalists who have broad experiences from very important national media platforms now as staff of the government and staff of the state
media team that will propagate effectively the work we have done and we are still doing.

”Sometimes, people do not know the enormity of what is going on here, the profound change that is going on in this society. ”I charge you to expand the frontiers of government information management, documentation and records. Accordingly, the offices of the state’s historians and archivists will now report to the state’s ministry of information and orientation. You will take charge, not only of government’s information but also of documentation and record.”

In reassigning Jonathan Obuebite to the Ministry of Education, Dickson urged him to allow the same vigour and dedication he used in Information Ministry to bear on his new ministry (Education).

Dickson stated, ”Obuebite is hereby reassigned to the Ministry of Education. I want to see that energy, that dedication, and that effectiveness, the ability and the capacity to go the extra mile.

”I like to see that in the ministry of education. As you are all aware, education is the first priority and a lot needs to be done.”
