Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson
GOVERNOR Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has signed the Direct Labour Agency Bill into law, describing it as a veritable tool to stimulate the economy of the state, through the provision of direct labou
r jobs that would engage youths.
He said this while signing the bill into law at the Government House, Yenagoa.
According to him, the law automatically establishes the state’s Direct Labour Agency, which has the mandate to execute small construction and maintenance jobs.
Dickson, who promised to constitute the board in no distant time, said the agency would be furnished with a list of projects in every ministry to enable them distinguish between the big ticket and direct labour contracts.
Presenting the document, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Konbowei Benson, said the bill, which was sent to the assembly on September 19, 2017, was passed on October 12, 2017, aimed to reduce the burden of the Ministry of Works, as it would focus on the award and supervision of big projects.
