Henry Seriake Dickson
GOVERNOR Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has resumed his official duties following the expiration of his annual vacation, to continue to steer the ship of state to a safer shore.
The Governor, however, lauded the people of the state for their support in the Restoration Government and cooperation with the Acting Governor, Gborobiogha John Jonah during his period of rest.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, in which he confirmed that the Governor, as required by the law, has written to the state House of Assembly, through the Speaker, Friday Konbowei Benson, signaling his resumption.
He also commended his Deputy, John Jonah (rtd) for effectively running the government, and the Restoration team, not forgetting, the civil servants for their dedication to duty and the support they have been given to his administration.
The statement noted that the Governor has since resumed and is presently on official duties in the nation’s capital, Abuja; and that part of his first assignment would be continuation of the commissioning of projects in the state.
Meanwhile, the Governor has called for an end to the feud between Senator Isa Misau and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, as it was capable to dragging the police institution to ridicule.
He condemned the ongoing controversy between the Nigeria Police and Senator Isa Misau, saying the corruption allegation and counter allegation between both parties is unhealthy and antithetical to the image of the Police institution.
The Governor was reacting to the allegation by Misau, who is the chairman of the senate committee on Navy that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris receives gratification from corporate organizations for the provision of security.
On the other hand, authorities of the Nigerian Police have declared the lawmaker a deserter for leaving the force to contest an election without following due process or getting the right permission.
Dickson expressed deep concern about the ongoing controversy, noting that, if not checked, is capable of putting both the Senate and the Nigeria Police in a bad light, as well as bringing them to public ridicule.
He noted that the counter allegations if left unchecked are capable of undermining the Police and Senate, which the Governor describes as critical institutions of state that must remain sacred!
Dickson, however, urged Misau to withdraw his allegations against the Nigeria Police, while also calling on the police authorities to refrain from making further statements or taking further action on the Senator.
He the police force has its issues, and that serving and former officers should support men and officers of the force, who are underfunded, but are doing a difficult job in a difficult situation to safeguard the country.
”Those of us who have passed through the force have a duty to work with the police to make it strong and better.
Those of us who have been in and out of uniform owe the organization the support that it desires from people, who have had the privilege to serve. We should not denigrate but support the police to enable it overcome the multifarious problems confronting the force which in my opinion is a critical institution of state” he said.
