Diabetes and red wine

I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes and given a list of what to eat and not to eat. However, my doctor did not say anything about my favourite drink, red wine. Kindly let me know what to do about this since I like red wine a lot.

Red wine or any alcoholic beverage has been proven to have the ability to lower blood sugar for up to 24 hours. Because of this, it is recommended that if you must drink your red wine, you should do so in moderation especially if you are on medication for diabetes. Those who want to do more than this are advised to check their blood sugar before drinking, while drinking, as well as up to 24 hours after drinking.
