The Director-General and Chief Executive of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Muda Yussuf has called on the National Assembly to review the legislation that will remove mining from the exclusive list.

He made the call on Sunday in llorin, the Kwara capital, while speaking with newsmen.

Yussuf said the measure will allow each state of the federation to have better control of the sector.

The director-general observed with dismay that under the present arrangement, the royalty from mining from various states goes to the Federal Government.

He was of the view that if the mining sector is on the concurrent list, states would have better role to play and even generate more revenue.

He commended the efforts of the Federal Minister of Mineral Resources in ensuring that that there is collaboration between the Federal and state governments in the sector.

According to him, the legislative and regulatory issues in mining has been a major bottleneck which needed to be urgently addressed.

Yussuf noted that some artisans and informal miners are operating illegally, stating that the Federal government is also putting in place a policy that will bring all the miners under one umbrella.

He urged sates government to create an environment conducive for mining business to thrive.

He described the mining sector as key to improving the nation’s economy.

The director-general assured that very soon the nation would be out of the present economic recession.
