Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, Olusola Amore, has said that essence of Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit of the police command was to make the police accessible to people.
Speaking during the launching of the Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) at the police command headquarters in Ilorin, the Commissioner of Police said that the release of his phone numbers and those of Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders to members of the public had helped the command in getting feedbacks and information on crime in the state.
He said that the measure had also helped to get feelers from members of the public on the conduct of police officers.
“I have also harped on policing strategy in the state, which is community oriented. The alternative dispute resolution (ADR) style of settling crises, especially communal crises among communities in the state, was one of the major challenge s in the command. “Corruption among the officers, especially extortion by those on stop-and-search duties and in police stations, has been drastically and successfully combated,” he said.
Amore also said that the command under his leadership had been discharging its statutory responsibility and other duties “based on international best practice of policing with integrity and zero tolerance for corruption and also ensure that the rules of law prevails in all our actions and activities.
“In making sure we do not deviate from the above objectives and also ensure that the people are the focal reason for the police existence, we have made it a point of duty that they enjoy the best police service”.
He said the PCRRU was a unit in the force saddled with the responsibility of receiving complaints of police professional misconduct emanating from policing activities and operations nationwide.
