The Zamfara State chairman, Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), Aliyu Abubakar Maradu, has assured that despite security challenges, no child will be denied access to quality education in the state.
He said enrolment into the Almajiri school has increased with additional teaching centers compared to last year in the state.
Maradun in an interview in his office in Gusau, disclosed that the present administration of Governor Bello Matawalle, has given more emphasis to education for all in the state.
“Let me commend Governor Bello Matawalle for his support and commitment toward uplifting the standard of education in the state; he has paid all matching grants from 2017 up to 2020 and he has enabled us to do more in terms of providing quality education to pupils in the state.”
According to him, all matching grants were accessed and adequately utilised for the development of education of our children.
“We have constructed a total of 1,020 classrooms, fully-equipped with furniture and we have recruited volunteer teachers.”
He maintained that under the BESDA programme this year, a total of 47,056 Almajiris were enrolled and provided with free uniforms.
“There has been an improvement in the enrollment of the Almajiris. Last year, we enrolled a total of 42,293 but there was increase this year. So far, we have enrolled 47,056 with 3000 orphans and we have built 256 teaching centers across the state.”
The executive chairman disclosed that this year, SUBEB would recruit 600 volunteer teachers and train them adequately.
He said most of the volunteer teachers are quite better than the conventional teachers, saying “we screened them well during the oral interview and gave them thorough training.”
He further maintained that within the two years of the present administration of Governor Bello Matawalle and with the support of the matching grants, SUBEB in the state was able to construct 11 ICT centers, which were fully-equipped with all facilities.
Maradun revealed that 36 schools were also constructed for the Fulanis with facilities for learning to ensure the children were given access to education.
“I believe providing access to educational opportunities for children and other targeted population will help in spreading good values such as the sanctity of life and dignity of the human person,” he said.
He further maintained that the state government had expressed heartfelt appreciation to the World Bank, Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission for various support and contributions to the overall development of education sector.
“Let me use this opportunity to reassure our esteemed partners that the Zamfara State Government is committed to supporting every programme that will ensure quality education for all the children in the state.”
