Despite paucity of funds, we’ve done rural electricity, market renovation —Ikole LG boss

Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mr. Adeyanju Adeyeye, is the first indigene of Ikole town to be elected into that office. He has attributed the development to what he referred to as “the magnanimity of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.” However, as the chairman of Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, elected in December last year, he said he had recorded some modest achievements “despite the paucity of funds occasioned by the recession that the country is passing through.”

Adeyeye, in thanking God for the opportunity to serve the people of Ikole LGA, also thanked Governor Fayose he described as “a pillar of support for the executive of the council as well as the people of the council area.” According to the council boss, the most important provision in the council area is security.

He said: “Oke Ako, a community in our council area witnessed the invasion of herdsmen, in which two lives were lost. As the council chairman, I cannot thank Governor Fayose enough for his prompt response to the attack. His prompt response immediately restored confidence among the people of the community and the local government authorities. The Ekiti grazing law came about because of the incident in Oke Ako in Ikole Local Government. To the glory of God, peace has been restored to that community following series of state government interventions.”

He added that “however, at our own level as the government at the grassroots, we have designed a way to enforce the grazing law as much as possible, because this is what the law needs to succeed. Without proper enforcement, the law would just be there and we at the rural areas have a duty to ensure the safety of amour people at the grassroots.”

On physical development, Adeyeye noted that “Ekiti State is not immune to the economic recession that has held the country by the jugular. But despite that, we must fulfill our electioneering promises to the people of Ikole Local Government Area.

“For instance, we have endeavoured to execute a rural electrification project in Temidire-Ekiti in Ikole. We’ve also been able to do rural electrification in Oke Ayedun-Ekiti. These we did within the first few months after we assumed office. In these communities, there hadn’t been electricity in over 20 years. The people had been suffering from lack of electricity.”

On another level, the chairman said “I was born in Ikole metropolis. Thus, I am the first indigene of Ikole town to have ever been elected as the chairman of the Local Government. Therefore, I am trying to make a meaningful impact so that I can point to legacies when I leave office. This is what our political leader, Governor Fayose is teaching us, that you have to leave good legacies for posterity.

“There is an Oja Oba market in Ikole that has not witnessed renovation in over 20 years. All the shops have fallen into serious disrepair. My administration is renovating the market as we speak. Oja Obas in big towns are main markets. The one in Ikole has been left without a touch up and soon, it would be completed for inauguration.

“These are some of the things we have been able to do in the nearly 12 months we were elected into office, despite the paucity of funds that is hampering a lot of activities of our government.”
