Desperation responsible for high rate of ‘Japa’ scams — Timilehin Taiwo

Timilehin Taiwo is the director of operations at MPIK Global Services and MPIK International Limited. She is also a licensed educational consultant making international study a core focus at MPIK. She told ROTIMI IGE how Nigerians can legally explore the study routes for relocation, among other issues.

Is study a good route to relocate?

Yes, study is one of the best means to relocate, although it is capital-intensive. It provides applicants an opportunity to learn differently. Nigerian students for example are familiar with the Nigerian educational system and curriculum. Studying in other countries will expose them to other methods of learning and give them an edge in the international job market and the global scene. It also affords applicants the opportunity to gain international work experience that positions them to relocate.

How does international study affect the Nigerian economy?

International study can have a positive impact on the Nigerian economy by exposing students to developed economies, leaving indelible impact on students. It has the potential to influence students’ life choices positively and foster a constructive disposition towards work and development in Nigeria.

What study destinations are the most popular?

The most popular study destinations, in no particular order include the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Canada and other countries in the EU. These destinations are popular because students have more work opportunities to gain experience. In most of these students have access to 20 hours work per week. These destinations are also popular because of the warm acceptance for international students this makes their student population a mix of several cultures.

Which of these countries are your specialities?

MPIK specialises in study opportunities in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States, and Spain. We have existing partnerships with schools in these countries and this gives us the opportunity to get our clients the best options suited for their goals.

Why is Spain a popular destination in present day?

Spain, being the sixth largest economy in the EU and 15th globally (2022 World Bank Data) makes it a choice destination too. We place students in schools that offer courses taught in both Spanish and English, providing convenience for international students who do not speak Spanish.

As a licensed educational consultant, do you have partnerships with schools abroad?

MPIK has partnerships with schools in the UK, US, Canada and Spain, recruiting students into these countries annually with very outstanding success rates.

What advise do you have for innocent Nigerians to avoid being scammed?

Travel scams are very common especially in developing countries. Some individuals take advantage of the desperation of some Nigerians to swindle them. This can be avoided by paying careful attention to details. To avoid scams, Nigerians should verify agents and agencies before committing their precious funds and be cautious of “too good to be true” offers.

What sets MPIK apart?

MPIK sets itself apart by delivering on promises, maintaining confidentiality of documents, and boasting an outstanding success rate. We also have an outstanding team of experts working together to make each application a success story. We do not only handle study packages. We also facilitate visit and vacation applications

How would you advise Nigerians looking to explore study or visit travel opportunities?

Travel is as old as human existence, and it presents fresh opportunities. I always advise that people considering internationals travel either to work, study or visit should take time to research and follow the best suited opportunity.
