Derayo Animasahun makes history in South Korea

Ibadan-born Chief Executive Officer of Fashion and Leather Works, Aminat Aderayo Animasahun, recently made history in South Korea as she became the first Nigerian to be honoured with the prestigious ‘World Master’ title.

The designer, who was also named among UNESCO’s 50 Most Amazing Global People designs hand-made shoes, bags and accessories. In her quest to help eradicate poverty in Nigeria. She launched the De’Rayo Vocational Limited, where she empowers women and the youths in crafts like photography, shoemaking, bead making, and textile designs.

The World Master recognition came under the Arts Department/Traditional Design where her nomination was sponsored by the Cultural Ministry of Africa with reviews that indicated her qualification for the award.

The award presentation was held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, where the Nigerian Ambassador to South Korea, Ali Magashi picked up the award on behalf of the winner who was far away in America to participate in a fashion programme organised by the USAID.

The textile designer established her first company at age 18 after completing her studies at the National Open University, where she obtained a degree in Entrepreneurship Studies. She has among her honours the Youth Entrepreneur of the Year 2018, the 60 Most Influential Personalities Award, Community and Culture Building Award by BAOBAB, Australia, and the JCI Personality of the Month Award.
