Deputy Senate President launches scholarship programme for 300 Kano students

Published by

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has launched a scholarship program for 300 Kano students to pursue Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD) in various Nigerian universities.

The scholarship, offered through the Barau Jibrin Foundation, will cover students studying Artificial Intelligence, Agriculture, Environment, and other emerging fields.

The programme aims to promote human capital development and higher education in Nigeria.

Senator Jibrin emphasised the importance of collective efforts in developing the country’s educational system, stating that government alone cannot achieve this goal.

“To boost educational standard in this country,” It’s what everyone, everyone, all households must participate in getting that done. That is to say that there is need for collective efforts. From the government to religious bodies, to individuals, in fact, even the ordinary person, everyone must come on board. And that’s why we are executing this initiative.

“We started with sending our students outside of the shores of this country to study AI, artificial intelligence and other courses, other programmes, so that they will bring the knowledge acquired to bear in a desire to develop our country,” Sen Jibrin stated.

He encouraged transparency and merit-based selection in the scholarship award process.

The screening and interview for the beneficiary students were held at Bayero University Kano, where Senator Jibril urged the panel of experts and professors to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Sagir Abbas, commended Senator Jibril for this initiative, highlighting its potential to promote national growth and development.

“This noble intervention is a clear testament to the foundation and wavering commitments to human capital development and promotion of higher education in Nigeria,” he stated.

The scholarship programme will enable the students to study in major Nigerian universities, including the University of Ife, University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, and Bayero University Kano.
