Depressed man attacks bank in Ilorin

Kwara State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested a middle-aged man for alleged bank robbery in one of the front line commercial banks in the Ilorin metropolis.

However, findings later revealed that the suspect was a depressed and psychologically imbalanced young man, said to have entered the banking hall and started collecting money on the counter.

It was gathered that men of the state police command arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, who was later taken to a psychiatric home in the state capital.

Meanwhile, the news of the arrest sent jitters among residents of the state capital, as people were apprehensive of the security situation in the acclaimed peaceful city.

In a statement by the police public relations officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, on the development, he described as a false alarm, report of armed robbery attack on a bank in Ilorin on Tuesday.

The statement reads:

RE-FALSE ALARM OF ARMED ROBBERY ATTACK ON A BANK IN ILORIN METROPOLIS

The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the unfounded news going round that armed robbers invaded a bank in Tanke area of Ilorin this morning, this has brought about some level of panic and agitation in the people.

The Command wishes to state that, what actually transpired was that, a man strayed into the said Bank, and started packing money on the bank Counter which eventually led to commotion in the banking hall. Policemen came in and arrested the suspect who was promptly taken away, preliminary investigation, however, revealed that the suspect is of unsound mind.

Meanwhile, peace has been restored and aggressive patrols of Ilorin have been ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ag. Cp Kayode Egbetokun, to further instil confidence on members of the public and especially Banks in the State.
Finally,  members of the public are advised to be conscious of happening around them and report any suspicious movement to the Police, please.
