Delta: Police arrest youth leader with AK-47, others

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a youth leader found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 44 rounds of ammunition, alongside a separate group of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations in Ekpan and Jeddo communities.

On 15th March 2025, operatives from the Ekpan Police Division apprehended Victor Edavwe, the youth president of Ekpan community, after receiving reports that he had recently acquired an AK-47 rifle.

During interrogation, Edavwe provided information that led officers to the residence of one Efe, also known as ‘Eteyomo’.

A search of the premises uncovered an AK-47 rifle, a single-barrel gun, three cutlasses, two daggers, and 44 rounds of live ammunition hidden in the roof of the sitting room.

In a separate operation on 16th March, police officers acting on intelligence about criminal activities in the Jeddo area arrested four suspects: Endurance Oghoghome, 38; Blessing Oghoghome, 46; Marvellous Dissy, 43; and Jonas Orogho, 38.

A search of their hideout led to the recovery of an automatic English pump-action gun, two locally made single-barrel guns, a fabricated Beretta pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and a live cartridge.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the officers for their efforts, stating, “The people of Jeddo community have reached out to appreciate the command’s work, noting that they can now breathe a sigh of relief following these arrests.”

The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects remain in custody as efforts continue to dismantle criminal networks in the state.
