The Paramount Ruler of the oil- and gas-rich Great Kingdom of Idjerhe in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State, HRM Obukowho Whiskey PhD, Udurhie I, has called for peace and greater understanding to ensure the success of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) under the leadership of Dr Dennis Otuaro.
The First-Class traditional ruler expressed his disappointment that, despite the Coordinator’s determined efforts to reposition the PAP office, certain individuals are working to undermine his progress.
He urged for more stakeholder meetings to find acceptable solutions to the ongoing challenges.
“Our region and our political appointees cannot achieve the desired results if all we do is engage in protests and petitions aimed at discrediting their work,” he said.
“Instead of always dragging down our people, we should focus on meaningful consultations with our sons and daughters in government.”
King Whiskey emphasised the power of collective effort in driving progress. “Together, we can achieve more, but individually, we will accomplish nothing,” he stated.
“As a critical stakeholder in the PAP, I firmly believe Dr Dennis Otuaro is on the right path. What is needed now is collective support to ensure even greater success.”
The monarch also called on the Federal Government to organise a crucial stakeholders’ meeting to review the ₦60,000 monthly stipends for ex-agitators.
“That amount is no longer sufficient to sustain their families and dependants,” he pointed out.
“Peace is best achieved through dialogue, not confrontation,” King Whiskey concluded, reaffirming his commitment to fostering stability in the region.
