Delta LG poll: CP warns troublemakers, restricts vehicular movement

Ahead of Saturday, January 6 local government poll in Delta State, the Commissioner of Police, Zanna Mohammed has warned troublemakers to steer clear of the state during the exercise.

CP Zanna, in a statement signed by the Police image maker, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, also announced the restriction of vehicular movement in all parts of the state from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm during the poll on Saturday.

According to him, only those on official and emergency duties with valid means of identification as well as the electorates with permanent voters’ cards, out to their registered polling units to cast their votes will be allowed passage during the restriction order.

He, however, regretted any inconveniences the restriction order might cause, saying order it was “tailored towards checkmating movement of probable mischief makers and political thugs.”

The CP further warned that any person or group of persons caught fomenting trouble during the exercise would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the provisions of the law.

He also “advised politicians and their supporters to adhere strictly to the electoral provisions and avoid any conduct that is capable of causing a break down of law and order before, during and after the elections.”

Zanna, who regretted the inconvenience the restriction order would cause commuters passing through Delta State to other states, enjoined them to take alternative routes or make do with other contingency plans.
