THE Delta State government has waded into the feud between Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) and Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the state government, on Monday, invited some leaders of the community to Asaba for a discussion over the impasse.
The meeting, which started at about 2: 30 p.m and ended at 3:45 p.m, was chaired by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Festus Ovie Agas.
It was also gathered that the state government pleaded with the people of Kokodiagbene community for time to engage the management of Chevron on the matter.
It will be recalled that the people of Kokodiagbene community had recently given the oil multinational a 14-day ultimatum to supply them with electricity as promised 19 years ago.
The community also staged a peaceful protest to the Otuonana flow station run by the oil company to press home their demand.
The community had also, last weekend, raised the alarm over alleged plan by American oil giant to clamp down on leaders of the community over the demand, imploring the state government to intervene.
Meanwhile, the representatives of the Ijaw community were said to have expressed gratitude to the state government for its t intervention.
They, however, advised the government to act fast and come up with immediate solution before the end of March.
Present at the meeting were Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area, Mr George Ekpemupolo; the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Oil Matters, Mr Bosin Ebikeme and a representative from Chevron Nigeria Ltd, Mr Daniel Agbafeda.
