Delta govt halts number plates removal of cars wrongly parked in Asaba

Director-General of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Chief Patrick Ukah, has ordered the immediate stoppage of the removal of vehicle number plates of cars that are parked on the road in the city.

This is coming on the heels of complaints by some motorists in the territory, particularly Asaba, that some task force members are removing vehicle number plates from cars parked on the road, and such number plates are returned after the payment of some amount of money to members of the task force.

In a reaction, Chief Ukah reaffirmed his earlier order stopping the act by the task force or any person or group of persons, warning that those involved would be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.

The Director-General revealed that the stoppage order stems from the fact that the agency was currently mapping out areas to be designated as car parks and specific areas where vehicles could be parked on roads within the territory.

Ukah did not rule out the possibility of people impersonating members of the Agency’s task force to perpetrate the ignoble and unauthorised act.

Ukah called on motorists in the capital territory to be wary of those involved in the act as they have no backing of the management of the Agency.
