The Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Tessy Diai, has released one inmate at the Warri Correctional Centre.
The inmate was released by the Chief Judge during the last quarter prison visit to the Correctional Centre concluded on Thursday.
Speaking during the visit, Justice Diai said that a total of 379 warrants were reviewed, adding that the released inmate, Mr Napue Chitu, was based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
She stated that no inmate was granted bail, stressing that the non-release of other inmates was a result of the fact that their cases were still ongoing in court.
Justice Diai commended the Assistant Controller of Prison at the Warri Correctional Centre and the office of the DPP, as well as every other person involved in the exercise, for their efforts in ensuring the success of the prison visit.
She was also at Sapele Correctional Centre the next day, where warrants of inmates were reviewed, including the children at the Sapele Remand Home.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Controller of Prisons, Warri Correctional Centre, lauded the State Chief Judge for the quarterly visits, saying that the initiative would help to decongest the number of inmates in the Correctional Centre.
The visit will continue on Monday, 11th November 2024, to other Correctional Centres in the state.
