Delta Central PDP adopts Okowa sole candidate for 2019

WITH just two years into his first-term, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta Central Senatorial District has endorsed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the sole candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial elections.

The endorsement came on a rainy Friday at a “Delta Central Mega Rally” held at the Sapele Township Stadium, Sapele, Delta State.

Minority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Leo Ogor, moved the motion of endorsement of Governor Okowa as the sole gubernatorial candidate of the PDP for 2019 while the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Ejaife Odebala, seconded it.

In attendance were Okowa himself, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, ousted member of the Senate and PDP chieftain, Senator Ighoyota Amori, party chieftains, government functionaries and other prominent PDPs faithful.

Speakers, who addressed the mammoth gathering amid rain, all averred that Governor Okowa’s activities within two years in office had qualified him for a second term, come 2019.

A former Minister for Information, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, during his address, stated that Okowa would do eight years as governor non-stop.

For Speaker Oborevwori, Okowa is the man for 2019 and PDP is the party.

“We are here to show that we love what you are doing and to tell the world that there is no other political party in Delta Central other than the PDP,” he averred.

Meanwhile, Governor Okowa at the occasion, said the PDP would be stronger if members were united and not work at cross purposes.

Okowa disclosed that ahead of the local government elections in the state, candidates of the party would emerge through a free, fair and acceptable process.

Several people who defected from other parties were received by chairman of PDP, Chief Kingsley Esiso.

Most of the defectors, which included members of the Delta State House of Assembly who won their elections on the platform of other political parties, were welcomed back to the PDP.

“In 2019, it is Governor Okowa again, the Urhobo nation appreciates you because of what you have done.

We are here today to celebrate progress, to celebrate prosperity, members of our party who left for other political parties are back to the family they belong to, the PDP, we are one family,” he noted.

Other dignitaries at the rally were Chairman of the Pdp in South South zone, Brother Emma Ogidi, Chairman of the PDP in Delta Central Senatorial District, Chief Patrick Fovie.
