The Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has stated that the Ministry of Defence is set to partner with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation on the implementation of “Project Nigeria.”
This statement was made available to the press in Abuja on Tuesday by the Spokesperson of the Ministry, Mr. Attari M. Hope.
According to the statement, the Minister made this announcement when the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Idu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
The statement explained that Badaru appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for remembering veterans and fallen heroes who paid the supreme price for serving the nation.
He stated that “Project Nigeria” would give hope to retirees and further boost the morale of personnel that are in the field.
According to the statement, while speaking about Project Nigeria, Badaru noted that on the 1st of October, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu mentioned that through the National Safety Net, 25 million Nigerians would receive N25,000 each for three months.
He added that this initiative would expand to cover the vulnerable, pensioners, veterans, and widows of fallen heroes.
He assured the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation of the unalloyed support and dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces to ensure the implementation of Project Nigeria.
The statement further noted that earlier in her remarks, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Idu, had explained that Project Nigeria was one of the many initiatives of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
Betta Idu said that the purpose of her visit to the Minister was to seek the Ministry’s buy-in and support in the area of security to ensure a seamless implementation of the initiative.
On his part, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Maj. Gen. AM Jibril (retd), said that injecting the Nigerian Legion into the programme, under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence, was a welcome idea that would give hope to the veterans and their families.
He stated that data on potential beneficiaries was being gathered and would be sent through the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
