Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila
THE Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila has said that despite the defection of some lawmakers elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Tuesday to other Political Parties, the APC still maintained its majority stature in the House.
Addressing news in Abuja shortly after the defection of the 37 lawmakers elected under the platform of the APC, Hon Gbajabiala who is also the leader of the APC caucus in the House disclosed that the PDP needed 60 lawmakers to become the majority but now the APC only lost 37 of its members to the defection, thus still leading with 23 members.
Hon Gbajabiamila who was flanked by several lawmakers of the APC questioned the legality of the defection and hinted that the APC as a Political Party would challenge the action in the court of law.
In his own ruling, the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara approved the defection of the lawmakers when an objection was raised by the members of the APC, saying that it was only the Court of law that could determine the legality of the matter.
