As part of its social responsibility and community service, Deeper Life Bible Church in Bauchi has trained no fewer than 1,000 teachers drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state for increased productivity in their service delivery.
While speaking to journalists in an interview during the one-day training, the state overseer of the church, Pastor Adeniyi Hassan, said that the Christian teachers’ strategy conference with the theme: ‘Teachers’ Role in Raising Tomorrow’s Leaders’ was aimed at training teachers to be able to impact positively on the children; in terms of virtue and character.
He added: “One of the factors militating against education in Nigeria is lack of character. No matter how sensible and knowledgeable a person is, if he or she is lacking in character, the whole effort is a waste and that is what is affecting our country negatively today.”
“This is the reason we are trying to bring in teachers, whom we believe, are integral part of nation-building. Moreso, there’s actually no one who does not pass through a teacher. We believe that if we work on them and they in turn work on the students, producing upright leaders in the country will be easy.”

Pastor Hassan stated that “Deeper Life Bible Church, is deeply concerned about the lifestyle and character of children because that is what will bring about the quality education that we are craving for as a nation. That is the purpose of the training.”
He called on teachers in Bauchi State to inculcate in the children Christ-like attitude, character and lifestyle, while noting that, “the church is trying to equip teachers, not only to each Geography, Mathematics, English and so forth, but to impact the lives of the students, so that they can have a mindset of doing what is right always.”
Also speaking, chairman, planning committee of the conference, Pastor James Cletus Ngope, said that the training was organised to impart teachers with knowledge, strengthen and give them the kind of impetus they need to forge ahead because excellence is needed in the education sector.
The overseer of Azare region of the church, pointed out that the training was also geared towards stimulating the teachers’ passion for their profession so that they can give their best.
Declaring the conference open, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde, described the training as timely, saying that the state government was working tirelessly to revive the fallen standards of education.
Tilde, who was represented at the event by the coordinator of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in the state, Mrs Ladi Kushi, said that the training was highly commendable as the role of teachers in the society is second to none.
The commissioner appealed to participants at the training to share knowledge among themselves by bringing suggestions, recommendations and solutions to the challenges confronting Christian teachers while discharging their primary assignments in the country.
He commended the ‘Deeper Life Bible Church’ for organising the training saying “our doors are open to critical suggestions and recommendations.”
