Deboarding of some Bauchi schools in line with national minimum standards — Commissioner

Bauchi Commissioner of Education, Dr Jamila Dahiru has clarified that decisions regarding the de-boarding of certain schools across the state were in line with national minimum standards and were primarily driven by enrollment figures.

The Commissioner was speaking in a meeting held at the Bauchi State House of Assembly between the management of the Ministry convened to address pressing issues surrounding the status of certain schools in the state.

Chief among the concerns, were the transition of some schools from boarding to day schools, Teacher recruitment and the regulation of private schools.

She emphasized that many schools lacked the necessary students number to function effectively as boarding institutions, necessitating the de-boarding process.

According to her, “On the issues of private schools, they are our partners in progress,” highlighting the collaborative efforts between the Ministry and private educational institutions.

She assured stakeholders that the Ministry is committed to inclusivity and was actively working to enhance the overall standard of education in the state.

In response to concerns raised by the Legislators, Jamila Dahiru pledged to revisit the matter of de-boarding certain schools, signaling a commitment to address the community’s feedback and concerns.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abbakar Y. Suleman, expressed appreciation for the timely response of the Commissioner and the Ministry’s willingness to engage in dialogue.

“We must appreciate your efforts, and we promise to offer our support,” he affirmed, indicating satisfaction with the Commissioner’s explanations regarding the issues at hand.

The collaborative efforts between the legislative body and the Ministry of Education underscored a shared commitment to improving educational outcomes in Bauchi.
