Deaf and dumb, 3 others arrested over murder of businesswoman

THE police in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, have arrested four persons including a deaf and dumb in Ubulu-Uku who allegedly murdered a business woman who traded in metal scraps and for also inflicting wounds on the driver of the truck conveying the materials.

Youths from Abuedo quarters of Ubulu-Uku had attacked the woman and the driver with cudgels and other weapons after the vehicle conveying the materials to Obior, the next community, hit an electricity pole in the community last week.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident and arrest of the youth said the police were on the trail of those suspects who escaped after the act.

The lorry conveying the metal scraps from Umuokwe quarters in Ogwashi-Uku was said to have hit the electricity pole, thereby disconnecting power in some parts of Abuedo.

The situation reportedly angered the youth who gave the lorry a hot chase and caught up with it.

Community sources told Metro that the youth held the vehicle hostage before allegedly attacking the deceased whom they beat to a pulp using various weapons.

“It was in the process of the beating that the woman collapsed. But some Good Samaritans rushed her and the driver of the lorry to a nearby hospital where she eventually gave up the ghost and her remains deposited in a morgue,” a source said.
