Afro-soul singer, Sopuru Precious, popularly known as Boypee has credited Davido for opening new doors for his music career, following their collaboration on the remix of his hit song, “Ogechi.”
In a recent interview with Showtime, the artist described the collaboration as a major milestone that elevated his profile in the music industry. He revealed that Nigerian socialite, Cubana Chief Priest, played a key role in connecting him with Davido, further highlighting Chief Priest’s support throughout his journey.
“Chief Priest believed in my talent and introduced me to Davido, which helped expose me to new opportunities,” Boypee explained, reflecting on the pivotal role the remix has played in his growing influence.
Fast emerging as a unique voice in Afro-soul-beat, Boypee’s musical journey began much earlier. In 2010, while still in high school, he started as a dancer and vocalist. From the start, he felt a strong calling towards music, often telling himself that he would one day create his own sound.
By 2015, Boypee made the shift to a professional music career, developing a style that fuses African soul with contemporary beats. In 2019, he began posting freestyles and covers on Instagram, which quickly attracted a dedicated fanbase, known as “Chokowurld.” His ability to blend soulful vocals with catchy hooks, inspired by African hip-hop, has made him stand out in the crowded music scene.
