Day old baby found dead inside Anambra refuse dump

Emotions were raised on Tuesday evening, as passers-by rain curses on mother (unknown), who dumped her dead baby boy in a refuse dump container near Geneva hotel Avenue junction, close to Goodwill bakery Okpuno in Awka South LGA of Anambra State.

One of sympathiser, at the junction close to the scene, who does not want to be mention in the print, said the unknown mother, would have gone to a nearby motherless baby home if she could not take care of him instead of killing the innocent boy.

Whoever dumped the baby there must be a very wicked person,’’ she cried.

She advised the young women, especially students to always make use of condom as prescribed, to avoid unwanted pregnancy whenever the urged arises.

At the time of filing this report, the identity of the mother of the baby was yet unknown.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relationship Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, in a statement said the act happen on 03/03/2020 at about 2:30 pm, shortly after, a report was lodged at B’ Division Awka that a baby was dumped by unknown person at a refuse inside a container near Geneva hotel Avenue junction, close to Goodwill bakery Okpuno in Awka South LGA of Anambra State.

Following the report, Police Patrol Team led by the DPO CSP Emma Ogbuanya rushed to the scene and discovered a baby boy of about a day old inside the container.

“Victim was photographed and confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor.

Meanwhile, the state department of Environmental Sanitation was contacted, they arrived at the scene and evacuated the corpse in order to avert health hazard to public living in the area.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, has ordered for a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
