IT was a day of honour and recognition for some dignitaries and professionals from various disciplines as they were inducted as knights by the authorities of the Methodist Church of Nigeria led by the Prelate of the church, Dr Oliver Ali, last Sunday.
The venue of the event, Wesley Cathedral, Elekuro, Ibadan, Oyo State, was graced by representatives from all the branches of the church in the South-West, as well as families and well-wishers of the newly installed knight.
Speaking on the importance of the event, the Archbishop, Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), Ibadan Archdiocese, Most Reverend Olumuyiwa Odejayi, said that induction of the knights was part of the decision of the 48th/13th Biennial Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria, held at the Cathedral of Unity, Abuja, on August 15, 2022, to honour some deserving members as part of the practice of the church.
He added that the beneficiaries of the awards had been found worthy both in character and Christian discipline, adding, “They have put to use their God-given talents, time and resources to promote Gord’s works in their various communities, churches, nation and the world at large.
“Some of those that were honoured are persons who have left indelible impressions of their contributions and achievements as a timeless legacy in the collective memory of the people of God. We are happy to celebrate the achievements of humankind, and to further bear testimony to God’s faithfulness and favour upon their lives.”
Some of the beneficiaries of the special recognition, which was in categories of Knight of John Wesley (KJW), Knight of Charles Wesley (KCW), Officer of the Order of the Wesley (OOW) and Member of the Order of the Wesley, include, the Oyo State governor’s wife, Mrs Taminominini Makinde; Chief Kola Osunbunmi; Professor Adeboyin Aderounmu; Mr Moses Soyonmbo; Chief Ebenezer Owoyele; Evangelist Samson Odutale, among others.
Chief Osunbunmi, who was honoured with the Knight of John Wesley, expressed his delight over the recognition and stressed that it is a call to more service in the vineyard and humanity.
“It will spur me to do more in all ramifications to the work of God. I feel honoured and I will be more committed to things of God. I want to advise Christians at large to work more for God, be upright, pray, live an exemplary life, and be God-fearing in all their endevours. They should shun any vices that will tarnish the image of Christianity in Nigeria and the world at large,” he added.
