Day ‘Eko On Show’ festival amplified the spirit, resilience of Lagos

Last Friday, all roads led to the Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos where the state government via its Ministry of Arts and Culture, put together a festival to celebrate Nigeria’s independence and the identity of Lagos.

On exhibition were the finest of fashion, food, culture, tourism and music, and the hundreds of guests who thronged the venue to re-discover and identify with the nation’s independence, feted to a wide array of food, drinks, fashion and cultural displays, dance and celebration.

Some of the country’s finest musicians, dancers and fashion designers were also invited to thrill fun-seekers.

Fuji maestro, Kwam 1 the Ultimate (K1), Juju legend, Sir Shina Peters, Tiwa Savage, D’banj, Teni, Aryar Star among others, thrilled the gathered audiences with energetic performances. 

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu was also present at the event to celebrate with Lagosians and he encouraged them to promote and preserve the sanctity of their nationality and heritage.

The host and Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, while speaking to journalists said the event was designed to raise the spirits of Lagosians and give them inspiration, while also entertaining them with the rich and vibrant culture of Lagos and its people. 

She said, “This event is designed to raise the spirits of Lagosians, to give them inspiration, and to entertain them with the rich and vibrant culture of Lagos and its people. Entertainment, fashion and food are huge drivers of the state’s economy – they embody the spirit of our independence and have helped Nigerian culture to make its mark on the world.”

Highlights from the event included various designers who took to the stage to showcase unique designs, a spectacular dance session from Kaffy and her crew, and performances from invited artistes who took turns to thrill the crowd, who were in high spirits throughout the event.
