Darway Coast, partners unveil Ibaragun mini-grid to boost rural electrification in Ogun

Darway Coast, in partnership with All On and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), has expressed confidence that the newly launched Ibaragun mini-grid project will bring reliable, revolutionary energy access to the rural community in Ogun State.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the innovative project, financed by All On through its Demand Aggregation for Renewable Technology (DART) programme, brings a 500KW solar-powered mini-grid to the Ibaragun community, providing consistent and eco-friendly electricity to thousands of residents. The mini-grid is engineered to deliver dependable electricity while significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.

According to the brains behind the project, the Ibaragun mini-grid project exemplifies the transformative power of clean energy in boosting productivity and enhancing the quality of life for rural communities. By delivering cost-effective and reliable electricity, this project paves the way for economic development, providing vital support to local businesses, public institutions, and residents.

Darway Coast, an indigenous renewable energy company, has demonstrated its expertise and dedication to improving energy access in Nigeria’s underserved regions. According to Henry Ureh, CEO of Darway Coast, “The completed Ibaragun mini-grid project will deliver immediate and lasting benefits to the community through reliable, clean energy.”

All On, an independent impact investing company, has been instrumental in fostering the development of sustainable energy infrastructure across the region. Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On, emphasised the company’s commitment to “fuelling economic growth, enhancing livelihoods, and reducing the environmental impact of energy consumption.”

The Manager of Utility Innovation at GEAPP, Fauzia Okediji, also highlighted the significance of the project, saying, “The Ibaragun mini-grid demonstrates that transformative impact is possible when collective ambition, capital, and innovative technologies align. Our alliance approach boosts energy access and drives climate-aligned growth.”

Okediji noted that through initiatives like the DART programme, they were scaling distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions and supporting developers in delivering impactful and community-led energy projects, thereby “creating economic opportunities across Nigeria and the continent.”

The Ibaragun mini-grid project is a shining example of the impact that can be achieved through collaborative efforts and innovative financing solutions. As the community celebrates this milestone, it’s clear that the future of energy access in Nigeria is brighter than ever.
