Dangote refinery: Civil society council demands transparency in PMS pricing

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has demanded transparency from Dangote Refinery regarding its pricing of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), amid a brewing controversy with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL).
NNPCL has since released estimated prices of PMS at its retail stations across the country.
“We are concerned about the allegations and counter-allegations between Dangote Refinery and NNPCL,” said Blessing Akinlosotu, Executive Director of NCSCN.
“The Nigerian people deserve to know the truth about the pricing and costs of PMS. We urge Dangote Refinery to come clean and provide necessary clarification.”
“The NCSCN will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the interests of Nigerians are protected,” Akinlosotu emphasized.
“We commend NNPCL for standing firm against potential exploitation and urge Dangote Refinery to address the concerns raised.”
Dangote Refinery’s failure to meet NNPCL’s demand for 25 million liters per day has raised concerns about potential fuel scarcity.
According to reports, Dangote Refinery released only 16.8 million liters of PMS to NNPCL, falling short of the required amount.
“This shortage has the potential to disrupt the nation’s fuel supply chain,” Akinlosotu warned.
“Dangote Refinery must take responsibility for meeting the demand and ensuring Nigerians have access to affordable fuel.”
The NCSCN has questioned Dangote Refinery’s decision to wait for a deal with NNPCL to fix PMS prices in a deregulated regime.
“Why is Dangote Refinery waiting for a deal with NNPCL when the prices should be determined by market forces?” Akinlosotu asked.
Additionally, the council has inquired about Dangote Refinery’s proposed price for domestic crude supply.
“What price is Dangote Refinery proposing for domestic crude supply, and how does it align with global market realities?” Akinlosotu queried.
As the controversy unfolds, Nigerians remain vigilant, demanding transparency and accountability from all parties involved.
“The Nigerian people will not tolerate any attempt to exploit them,” Akinlosotu warned. “We will continue to advocate for their rights and interests.”
The NCSCN has also called on Dangote Refinery to refute the allegations made by NNPCL regarding the pricing and supply of PMS.
“Dangote Refinery must come out bold enough to tell Nigerians and the entire world how much PMS has been released to NNPCL, at what price, and how much it intends to sell PMS based on processing economic realities,” Akinlosotu demanded.
Industry experts have weighed in on the controversy, emphasizing the need for transparency in the oil and gas sector.
“This dispute highlights the need for regulatory oversight and transparency in the industry,” said Dr. Muda Yusuf, Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
As the nation awaits clarification from Dangote Refinery, the NCSCN remains committed to ensuring that Nigerians are not exploited.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for the rights of Nigerians,” Akinlosotu assured.
The controversy has sparked reactions from stakeholders, with some calling for greater transparency in the oil and gas sector.
“This is a wake-up call for the industry to prioritize transparency and accountability,” said Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre.
The Nigerian government has been urged to intervene in the dispute, ensuring that the interests of Nigerians are protected.
“The government must take decisive action to prevent exploitation and ensure transparency in the industry,” Akinlosotu emphasized.
As the situation develops, Nigerians remain hopeful that the controversy will be resolved in their favor.
The NCSCN’s demand for transparency and accountability has resonated with the public, who are eager for clarity on the PMS pricing controversy.
The NCSCN’s call for transparency and accountability has amplified the need for regulatory oversight in the oil and gas sector.
As the nation awaits clarification from Dangote Refinery, one thing is clear: Nigerians will not tolerate any attempt to exploit them.
